Release Date: October 2007
Publisher: Grand Central Publishing Hachette Book Group USA
Genre: Non-Fiction/Fiction

Book Jacket: "Congratulations -- just by opening the cover of this book you became 25% more patriotic.
From Stephen Colbert, the host of television's highest-rated punditry show The Colbert Report, comes the book to fill the other 23 1/2 hours of your day. I Am America (And So Can You!) contains all the opinions that Stephen doesn't have time to shoehorn into his nightly broadcast.
Dictated directly into a microcassette recorder over a three-day weekend, this book contains Stephen's most deeply held knee-jerk beliefs on The American Family, Race, Religion, Sex, Sports, and many more topics, conveniently arranged in chapter form.
Always controversial and outspoken, Stephen addresses why Hollywood is destroying America by inches, why evolution is fraud, and why the elderly should be harnessed to millstones.
You may not agree with everything Stephen says, but at the very least, you'll understand that your differing opinion is wrong.
I Am America (And So Can You!) showcases Stephen Colbert at his most eloquent and impassioned. He is an unrelenting fighter for the soul of America, and in this book he fights the good fight for the traditional values that have served this country so well for so long.
Please buy this book before you leave the store."

Taryn's Review: I love Stephen Colbert. Is this a biased book review? You betcha! But I can't imagine a better book to kick off my jump back into the world of reading than with a book from a man who always makes me laugh.

I have to say, this book is probably best suited for people who already watch and enjoy The Colbert Report. Colbert's show is a delight to watch and his book delivered the same dose of hilarity that his show provides. If you aren't a Colbert Show fan, you might have a really hard time understanding the character Colbert has created.

The book not only gives you Colbert's point-of-view on pretty much everything, it also included various games and activities at the end of chapter. Colbert also added stickers to be placed on books that you feel could be nominees of the Stephen T. Colbert Award for the Literary Excellence; just remove one of the twelve available stickers and place on the book of your choosing.

I literally chuckled aloud as a I read this book. Colbert added footnotes and margin notes for you to enjoy along with his text. I ended up reading parts of the this book out loud to my sister and we both were cracking up. If you're a Stephen Colbert fan, read this book immediately.

And please be sure to check out the author's picture on the back jacket of the book as well as the "About the Author" section. Classic Colbert, right there. I love it! I can't wait to read his new book!

  1. Having listened to the book instead of reading it, I am quite sad I missed out on the games, activities, and stickers. I figured the print version would have something extra since the audiobook had jokes and segments (like guest readers Amy Sedaris and Jon Stewart) that were tailored to listeners rather than readers. Of course, for the sake of capitalism, Stephen encourages us to enjoy both versions (multiple times on multiple new copies), but I will probably do the unpatriotic thing and go to my local library. Welcome back to the blog Taryn--I can't wait to see what else you have in store :)
